Cougars top Walsh 67-66 for championship

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. - The Saint Francis Cougars beat Walsh 67-66 Tuesday night to claim the school's first NAIA Division II national championship.

The Cougars trailed 38-32 at halftime, but responded with a big second half.

DeJovaun Sawyer-Davis scored 18 of his team-high 22 points in the final 20 minutes to lead the Cougs to a win.

Ferdinand Morales-Soto scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds for St. Francis. East Noble high school grad Matt Edmonds netted 14 points. Guard Qadr Owens added 11 points while Bishop Dwenger grad Joey Kosiarek scored eight.

The Cougars came into the tournament as the 15th seed.

The team will return from Point Lookout Wednesday at 8 p.m. and the school has planned a pep rally at that time.
