WBB: Lady 'Dons drop game in Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. – The IPFW women's basketball team was defeated by Omaha on Saturday afternoon by the final score of 60-50. Amanda Hyde led IPFW with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting.
 
The Mastodons (5-10, 1-2) were searching for their first road Summit League win of the season after splitting a pair of games last weekend. Hyde scored 20 points despite battling foul trouble. She picked up two fouls in the opening half and then was forced to the sideline after picking up her fourth personal with 8:00 remaining in the second half. IPFW also finished the game without Mur Hagerman and Stefanie Mauk as each player suffered an ankle injury.
 
The final four minutes of the game was the deciding factor between Omaha and IPFW. The score was tied at 49-49 with Erin Murphy at the free throw line. Murphy's second attempt gave IPFW a one point lead at 50-49, but the Mavericks ended the game on an 11-0 run to secure the victory.
 
Erin Murphy scored 14 points for IPFW and Stefanie Mauk added seven before the injury occurred. Haley Seibert , Courtney Ogle , and Rebecca Bruner all chipped in with two points. Rachel Mauk rounded out the scoring with a three-point field goal.
 
Paige Frauendorfer led Omaha to victory by scoring a game-high 23 points on 9-of-14 shooting. She ended the game with a double-double as she added 10 rebounds vs. IPFW. Carolyn Blair-Mobley added nine points and Casse Vaughn poured in eight off the bench.
 
Amanda Hyde was nearly unstoppable in the first half as she paced IPFW with 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Hyde hit three, 3-point field goals and added a pair of free throws to keep the 'Dons within striking distance.
 
Erin Murphy scored the first five points of the game and added a free throw late. Haley Seibert also scored late in the half with a pair of free throws. The only other Mastodon to score in the opening 20 minutes was Rebecca Bruner who put back two points after an offensive rebound.
 
IPFW saw a three-point halftime deficit expand into a 10 point advantage early in the second half. The team gained their composure and battled back to take a one point lead after a Rachel Mauk 3-pointer that made the score 37-36 with 14:36 remaining. The game stayed closed for the next ten minutes, but the 11-0 run in the final 4:14 gave Omaha their 11 ^th win of the season.
 
IPFW will return to the Gates Sports Center next weekend with a pair of home games against North Dakota State and South Dakota State. Tip-off vs. NDSU is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 10. The game vs. South Dakota State will be played on Saturday, Jan. 12.
