SOUTH BEND, IN. - No Brian Kelly doesn't know who his starting quarterback is going to be on September 1st - but that didn't stop reporters from asking. The battle for starting snaps was the topic de jour at Notre Dame's football media day as fans await whether it will be Everett Golson or Andrew Hendrix under center when the Irish open their season against Navy.
While Kelly wouldn't hint as to which direction he is leaning, he did say that by Monday, he figures to begin skewing the snap counts in one quarterback's favor to begin prepping for the opener.
Not surprisingly, Golson was among the most popular players following Kelly's press conference - Andrew Hendrix was not in attendance.
Bishop Dwenger grads Tyler Eifert and John Goodman were also in attendance on Thursday. Eifert has been named a preseason All-American by nearly every sports publication and has high expectations surrounding him after a record-setting junior season. Goodman returns as a fifth-year senior for the Irish.
Another major topic of discussion - how the Irish are preparing for the rigors of opening their season overseas in Ireland. Kelly says his biggest concerns stem not from players being fatigued on game day, but how the drastic time change could impact his players later in the season.
