NORMAN, OK. - When No. 5 Notre Dame takes the field against No. 8 Oklahoma Saturday night, they'll do so without one of their biggest playmakers. ESPN is reporting that running back George Atkinson III did not make the trip to Norman, but instead was left behind in South Bend after experiencing flu-like symptoms.
The sophomore leads the Irish with 8.1 yards per carry, rushing 37 times for 301 yards and four touchdowns this season. Of his four scores, two have gone for more than 50 yards, demonstrating his explosiveness. Atkinson III has also been the teams top return man, bringing back eight kicks for 155 yards.
Notre Dame and Oklahoma will kickoff at 8 p.m. ET Saturday night.
