FORT WAYNE, IN. (WANE) - When it comes to Saint Xavier, USF doesn't need any added motivation. Losing four straight to their conference rival will do that to a program. The fact that Saint X is the defending national champion and currently rated No. 1 in the nation - that's all just icing on the cake.
Even newcomers to the series, like transfer Kevin Bush and redshirt freshman Seth Stuart, both expressed their dislike for the Cougars despite having never taken a snap against them.
Saint Xavier enters Saturday night's match-up with an unblemished 4-0 record behind an offense that has produced big plays and a defense that has been stiffing. Quarterback Jimmy Coy has been banged up but has still completed 65 percent of his passes for 975 yards and 12 touchdowns. His favorite target has been wideout Shane Zackery (33 rec, 518 yds, 6 TDs) who is a big play waiting to happen according to Kevin Donley. In all, the offense is wracking up over 500 yards per game.
The Cougars defense has been just as good, allowing fewer than 280 yards per game, while accumulating 13 sacks and eight interceptions. Zach Dolph has been a one-man wrecking crew, with 3.5 sacks, 9.5 tackles for loss and 44 total tackles in just four games.
Saint Francis is coming off a dominating 76-14 win over Concordia - a game that gave Kevin Donley his record-setting 257th career win. This is unquestionably the toughest match-up of the season to date for USF however. The only previous game against a ranked opponent this season ended in a 15-14 loss at home to then No. 20 Saint Ambrose.
