FORT WAYNE - Discipline is the word Landon Feichter uses to explain his rise from walk-on to possible starter at Purdue University.
Feichter, a graduate of Bishop Dwenger, entered camp with the Boilermaker football program as a preferred walk-on in the fall of 2010. After spending a year redshirting Feichter saw his name called multiple times during the 2011 season as he played in all 13 games for Purdue. The safety racked up 25 total tackles and found himself at the top of the depth chart entering spring practice.
A shoulder injury that required surgery meant Feichter missed all of spring ball, but he continues to rehab with the hope of expanding his role with Purdue this fall.
A two-time all-state pick at Dwenger, Feichter had a full ride offer from Illinois State along with other opportunities but elected to walk-on at Purdue - a decision he says was one of the best he's ever made.
