With Kyle Rudolph lost for the season due to a hamstring injury Fort Wayne native Tyler Eifert now inherits the starting job at tight end for the Irish.
Eifert, a Bishop Dwenger grad, is a redshirt freshman. He has one catch this season, as that grab came against Michigan.
Eifert has been battling a shoulder injury the last two week.
Notre Dame faces Western Michigan Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in South Bend.
