WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WANE) - What's been a great season for Purdue guard D.J. Byrd took a drastic turn early Friday morning when the Boilermaker junior was arrested on public intoxication charges outside a popular campus bar by West Lafayette Police.
According to our sister station WLFI, a bouncer at Where Else Bar called police claiming Byrd battered him.
Purdue head coach Matt Painter has suspended Byrd for Sunday's game against Michigan State while junior guard Kelsey Barlow has been dismissed from the program.
“This is an unfortunate situation, but we will move forward as a program,” Painter said. “We expect our student-athletes to live up to a high standard, and when their actions become detrimental to the program, there are consequences."
Barlow's dismissal follows an up-and-down career at Purdue where he was suspended last season prior to the NCAA tournament for conduct detrimental to the team. Barlow's suspension stemmed from alleged failed drug tests.
