FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The IPFW Mastodons battled with the 23rd ranked Xavier Musketeers, falling at the Hefner Soccer Field by a 2-0 final score on Tuesday evening.

IPFW (0-8) was out-shot by the Musketeers (5-0-2) 32-5 in the game, with sophomore goalkeeper Brandon Cloutier picking up eight saves in the match.

The match was a scoreless battle through the first 19 minutes of the contest, before Luke Spencer sent a through-pass to Gino De Paoli, which De Paoli beat Cloutier for the game's first goal.

The game would remain scoreless despite numerous quality attempts by the strong Musketeer squad, until the 89th minute of the game when Spencer, the fourth-leading scorer in the country, took a pass from Will Walker and beat Cloutier near post to give the game its 2-0 final score.

Jose Rodriguez had a team-high two shots in the loss, including a strong attempt just out of halftime that was saved by Xavier goalkeeper Justin Marshall.

The Mastodons return to action on Saturday, September 22 when the squad opens its 2012 Summit League season in Kansas City in a 7 p.m. kickoff against UMKC.
