It's a shot every basketball player has dreamed about: a half court shot, at the buzzer, to win the game. Woodlan junior Lauren Ehle got to live the dream last night.

The Warriors were playing Bishop Dwenger to open the Class 3A girls sectional action. The last time the two teams met, the game was very different.

"Earlier in the season we lost by 31 or so, so we didn't really have anything to lose," said Ehle. "So we were just going to go out and have fun."

Coach Tonya Burns-Cohrs had the same message for her team in the locker room before the game.

"I told the girls we have nothing to lose and no one in the state of Indiana believes that we're going to win so go out there and have fun," she said. But by halftime, she knew she and her girls had more than a good shot.

With 45 seconds to go, the Warriors we're down 43-44. They had the ball and Burns-Cohrs was faced with every coach's tough decision. "As a coach you go, should I call a time-out? Set something up? But I know these girls and they have always wanted to do it themselves," she said. "So I thought, ok we're just going to let it go."

Ehle took a chance and drove the lane and the referee called a jump ball. Dwenger's possession. Woodburn had two fouls to burn, so two quick fouls sent a Dwenger player to the foul line with 4.6 seconds left.

"I really hope this comes to me because I'm feeling it," thought Ehle as she waited for the shot. "She ended up missing the first one and I got the rebound. (I) took two or three dribbles and just before half court I just threw it up and as it was in the air the buzzer went off. It went in," she laughs remembering the play.

The Warriors won 46-44.

"I just kind of stood there and was like, 'oh my gosh. I just made that.' Then I just got trampled by my teammates."

She's seen the replay several times since last night and she still can't believe it happened, although she is more appreciative of the drill Burns-Cohrs has made them run all year practicing half court shots.

"I'm sure BC will have us do it today actually," she laughs.

Woodlan advances in the tournament and will play Concordia Lutheran Friday night.
