On a day with three area baseball teams competing for the right to play for a state title - Northfield was the only team to advance, defeating Hebron 5-4 in nine innings. Northfield will now play next weekend at Victory Field in Indianapolis for a state championship.

Northfield starter Ryan Keaffaber was brilliant on the hill - retiring 14 straight batters at one point. Both teams did their damage early - scoring three runs each through three innings. It wasn't until the ninth that the offenses managed to break through again - with Northfield emerging the victor.

In 3A semi-state action, Bellmont saw their season come to an end at the hands of Western. The Braves were defeated 11-6. Bellmont led 6-5 going into the seventh inning before the Panthers offense exploded for six unanswered runs. The Braves finish the year 24-9.

In the Class A final, Blackhawk Christian saw its 11-game winning streak snapped by Lafayette Central Catholic - falling 4-1. It was a pitchers duel throughout, with the score tied 1-1 heading into the sixth. That was before LCC scored three runs and held the Braves scoreless over the final two innings to secure the win.
