INDIANAPOLIS, IN. - Led by another brilliant pitching performance from Ryan Keaffaber, Northfield claimed the Class 2A baseball state championship on Saturday afternoon at Victory Field with a 3-2 win over Evansville Mater Dei.
The Northfield ace allowed just one earned run in hurling a complete game, while striking out nine hitters to run his record to a perfect 16-0 on the season.
The Norsemen capitalized on Mater Dei mishaps in the first two innings, scoring on a wild pitch in the first and a throwing error in the second. They added a third run in the sixth on a perfect bunt down the first baseline from Colin Dawes that scored the decisive run.
The top ranked team in the state in 2A, Northfield ends their season with a 29-5-1 record.
