Scrimmages Give Players, Fans A Taste

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - After two weeks of practice area high school football teams finally got to hit someone with a different color jersey on Friday night as scrimmages took place all over the state.

At Bishop D'Arcy Stadium 3-time defending 2A state champion Bishop Luers battled Bishop Dwenger. Luers, who is looking to replace the SAC's all-time leading passer in James Knapke, saw positives from a variety of quarterbacks. Junior Quinn Cook, who looks to have an edge as the starter, played well, but so did freshman Noah Wesensky and senior Kyle Bliss. Dwenger, who is looking to replace last year's starting QB Michael Fiacable - who tore an ACL during the first week of practice - saw multiple players take snaps at the position.

At Bowser Field host Snider took on Homestead. The Panthers are coming off a trip to semi-state under coach Kurt Tippmann. Homestead is looking to replace record-setting quarterback Zach Terrell, with Matt Skowronek and Isaac Griffith seeing reps early in Friday's scrimmage. The Panthers were efficient in red zone situations, as both Quinton Daniels and Alec Reuille both scored early.

At Chambers Field two eight-win team from last year - Carroll and North Side - battled under the lights. Defense was the name of the game early, but North Side's offense would eventually kick in. C.J. Jackson connected with all-SAC returnee Anthony Linnear for a big gain that lead to a Jackson rushing touchdown. In red zone action Drue Tranquille pounded his way in for a Carroll touchdown.

Tune into the area's longest running sports show next week as the Highlight Zone kicks off a record 17th season.
