FORT WAYNE - High school football practice got underway Monday with Bishop Luers hitting the field with three consecutive 2A state titles in their back pocket.

The Knights are the favorites to win a fourth-straight title. Only one team in Indiana history has won three in a row (Warren Central 2003-06).

Per recruiting website Rivals.com, the Knights have four of the top 20 seniors in the state. That includes no. 4 overall national prospect in linebacker/running back Jaylon Smith who has committed to Notre Dame.

The Knights must replace graduated quarterback James Knapke. The SAC's all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns passes, Knapke is a freshman at Bowling Green. Coach Matt Lindsay says four players have a legit shot at being the starting quarterback.

The Knights open the season August 17 against Snider.
