FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Plenty of NEI student-athletes put pen to paper on Wednesday as the early signing period kicked off, allowing high school seniors to sign college scholarships for all sports but football.
At 7 a.m. Northrop got the ball rolling as three Bruins signed to play college spots . Bryson Scott inked with Purdue basketball, his twin brother Brenton went with Indiana State, and baseball standout Tyler Huth also signed with Purdue.
New Haven fans saw V.J. Beachem make good on his verbal commitment to Notre Dame as the basketball standout signed with the Irish.
At Snider three athletes inked to play college sports . Somer Johnson will play volleyball at IPFW, Brandon Phelps baseball at IPFW, and Meredith Shipman basketball at Western Michigan.
Canterbury had a trio of student athletes sign in the afternoon . Bailey Farley will play basketball at Loyola, Patrick Downs will play tennis at Ball State, and Elizabeth Shank will ride for the Baylor equestrian team.
Two athletes inked at South Side as Ariana Simmons will play college basketball at IPFW while high school teammate De'Joyah Johnson will play at D-2 Urbana.
Warsaw's Lindsay Baker signed to play basketball at Toledo on Wednesday as well, while hoops standout Haley Richardson of West Noble inked with Ball State.
Leo's Keanna Gary (basketball) will sign with Akron on Thursday afternoon while classmate Jackson Boyce will ink with IPFW baseball.
Angola senior Rachel Rinehart will sign with IPFW basketball on Friday morning. Also that morning Norwell's Josh VanMeter will ink to play baseball at Illinois State.
