Snider senior Akilah Sims took home the area's biggest basketball honor as the Panthers' post player was named the winner of the 2012 Tiffany Gooden Award on Monday night.

The award goes to the SAC's best player, male or female.

Sims beat out three other finalists - Miracle Woods (Luers), James Blackmon, Jr. (Luers), and Bryson Scott (Northrop).

Sims put up 23 points and 12.2 rebounds per game as a senior. She also averaged 3.8 steals per game. Sims will play college basketball at IUPUI.

Local players, including the All-SAC and All-Northeast Indiana teams, were honored at the Journal Gazette's annual basketball banquet.

Barak Coolman of Northrop was named the SAC boys coach of the year while Concordia's Dave Miller earned the honor on the girls side.
