FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Bishop Dwenger gymnastics team will head to Muncie this weekend in hopes of defending the program's state title.
The Saints won state last year, edging second place Valparaiso 112.550 to 111.975. Then-sophomore Katy Linvill finished third overall to lead the way.
With last year's championship Bishop Dwenger has tallied five state titles in gymnastics - third most in Indiana history behind Valparaiso (nine) and Homestead (six).
Dwenger's strength this season is overall team depth. The Saints will have nine gymnasts competing at state, letting most focus on one or two events. The Saints have just two seniors competing.
Dwenger is coming off a regional championship last week at Huntington North. For highlights and more info on last week's regional click here.
This Saturday's state action begins at 12:30 p.m. with opening ceremonies followed by events at 1 p.m.
The Saints are coached by Rosemarie Nix.
