Video of the kidney harvest

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - This is bonus surgery video of the donor surgery. Jenny McConnell donated one of her kidneys to her half brother Brent Doctor.

Dr. Erik Weise used the da Vinci robot to disconnect the kidney inside the body. The kidney is then put into a bag and pulled out from an incision above the belly button.

Dr. Tarik Kizilisik, the transplant surgeon, waits in the operating room with a bucket of ice for the kidney. As soon as the kidney is taken out of the body, it's put in the ice. Dr. Kizilisik flushes out McConnell's blood and makes sure the kidney is in good condition before taking it to the operating room next door for the transplant surgery.
