DEKALB COUNTY, Ind. (WANE)  Multiple fire departments responded to a barn fire in DeKalb County Wednesday morning at around 8 am.

Thick black smoke could be seen for miles away from the barn which is located on County Road 66 near 205.

According to a spokesperson with the Laotto Fire Department, a worker was using a grinder in the barn when sparks ignited a fire.  The fire quickly spread and several fuel tanks inside exploded.  One of the explosions resulted in a mushroom cloud that went 200 feet into the air. The barn contained a shop area and farm equipment.

Firefighters told NewsChannel 15 the barn is a total loss. It took about an hour to get the fire under control and there were no injuries.

Laotto, Garrett, Avilla, Jackson Township, Auburn and Huntertown fire departments all assisted.

Ian Webb used Report!t to send a photo of the smoke billowing into the sky.
