FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - After 70 years in business, the Posey Shoppe will close its doors at the end of this year.
The florist has been at the Village of Coventry for the last 15 years. Co-owners Rhonda Dennon and Sandy Morrell say it's been a great run.
"It's been really good. And we've had a lot of good customers," said Morrell. Dennon added, "We were doing fantastic. I mean we couldn't keep up with it!"
Dennon says she started to feel the effects of the slow economy eight years ago. Slow demand paired with bigger chain stores finally caught up with them. Most recently, the looming expansion of the Scott's grocery store in the same plaza.
"I don't think that there's going to be a lot of traffic around here. I don't think people are going to want to come around here with all the construction. It's gonna be pretty much total chaos," said Dennon.
Traffic is non-stop right now as the shope holds its going out of business sale. The owners say, it's giving them a chance to say goodbye to their loyal customers.
"Yeah I'll miss it," said Dennon. "But, we'll see what happens. One door closes, another one opens."
The shop will deliver as usual until its last day of business, December 23rd.
