FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Hundreds of people rallied for rail in downtown Fort Wayne, Saturday.

Congressman Mark Souder joined almost eight-hundred people in support of bringing passenger rail service back to the Summit City.
The Northeast Indiana Passenger Rail Association is working to get stimulus money to build a line that would connect Fort Wayne to Chicago and Cleveland.

"People in Fort Wayne are very enthusiastic about this issue. They want to see rail service come back to Fort Wayne and they will ride the train. This can produce jobs, save energy, open up tourism, and economic development in our downtown area," said Geoff Paddock of NIPRA.

INDOT has an application before the Federal Rail Administration for about 2.8 billion dollars.
