FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A new grassroots organization called the national Coffee Party kicked off its movement, Saturday, with coffee talks across the nation.

The non-partisan party calls people to get involved in civil dialogues about government and politics. Although it has been compared to the national Tea Party movement, participants say the Coffee Party does not want to be compared to other movements.

"We're not trying to be the opposite of them. We're just trying to be different," said Bill Cook who coordinated Fort Wayne's coffee party at Firefly coffee house on N. Anthony Blvd, Saturday.

About a dozen people attended the event, including Fort Wayne resident Shari Troy. "I believe that government can and should be a force for the good in our culture," said Troy. "Coming together with local people to discuss issues about our country and our government, in a civil manner. That feels very good to my soul.
