FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne's Voices of Unity Youth Choir is trying to raise thousands of dollars so members can attend the World Choir Games in China later this year.
The nationally recognized choir wants to send all 70 members and chaperones to Shanghai for what’s considered to be the “Olympics” of choir competitions. Over 400 choirs from more than 90 countries are expected to take part.
The official announcement of the fund raising effort came at a news conference Tuesday at the Arts United Center in downtown Fort Wayne.
The Voices of Unity Youth choir is one of only four American choirs invited to the World Choir Games.
”If 100,000 people go to the website and give a $10 or $20 donation, the money is raised. And we have not even bugged businesses or corporations and so I believe that this could be a city effort,” said Marshall White, choir director.
The trip will cost $4,000 a person. To contribute, visit the Voice of Unity Youth Choir web site, by clicking here .
