Step-dad peeps on teen in shower

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A Fort Wayne man, Dennis Dix, was arrested for Voyeurism Wednesday after he admitted to spying on his step-daughter with an installed video camera while she was taking a shower.

According to a probable cause affidavit, in September, Dix’s step-daughter, 18, found a security camera installed through a hole cut into a vanity, under the sink basin in the bathroom of their home.

After telling her mother, Rhonda Mendenhall, about what she found, they followed the wiring and found the camera was connected through the floor to a VHS video cassette recorder in a bedroom shared by Dix with his sons. There, they found several unlabeled VHS tapes around the recorder.

In a police interview, Mendenhall said she reviewed several of the tapes and found one that showed her daughter getting into the shower, showering and getting out. She also said she found a recording of HBO’s Real Sex, in which the episode discussed voyeurism.

During another police interview, Dix admitted he was responsible for buying the security camera at Menard’s and installed it into the vanity. Dix also said he ran the wiring to the VHS recorder in the bedroom and recorded his step-daughter while she showered.

Dix told police he made the recording because he was curious.

Dix made an appearance in Allen Superior Court Friday for his initial hearing. He is scheduled to go back on December 22.
