WINCHESTER, Ind. (WANE) NewsChannel 15's Adam Widener visited the Animal Friends SPCA in Winchester, Ind. to follow up on the litter of puppies that was removed from a property that had 150 to 200 dogs living on it.

The AF SPCA was on the scene with the Mercer County Sheriff's Department on Wednesday when the warrant was served and 19 dogs removed from the property.

Moland, of AF SPCA, told NewsChannel 15 she had previous contact with the Judy Briner and her husband, who own all the dogs. She said the Briners had dropped off litters of puppies in the past.

Moland estimated she had placed over 100 puppies from the Briners over the last couple years. She told NewsChannel 15 she had contacted police before about the puppies coming from the Briners and said she advised the Briners to spay and neuter their dogs.

Moland said she did not know how bad the situation was on the property until she went there in person on August 30.

"You can't breathe in the house.  There's feces everywhere.  Urine smell burns the eyes," Moland said.  "[There are] dogs with wounds, mange, ringworm, infested with fleas and other parasites I'm sure."

Moland took pictures of the environment on the property and took four puppies the Briners willingly gave her. Some of the photos Moland took can be see in the photo gallery.

On Wednesday, Sept. 14 Moland assisted the Mercer County Sheriff's Department when they served a warrant in order in investigate the conditions of the dogs on the property. The litter of six-week-old puppies and their mother were found in a closet in the main house.

One puppy was in poor condition the day it was rescued but volunteers said it is recovering after being nursed with a bottle.

19 dogs in total were removed from the property on Wednesday. Unfortunately, eight of them were terminally ill and were euthanized.

"Of course I felt sorry for the Briners at first but I'm thinking, 'No they did this to the animals,'" Moland said.  "It's not the animals' fault.  They didn't have a voice.  They didn't have a choice.  They had to stay there and suffer.  And it bothers me a lot to see all those animals suffering in there."

The seven puppies and the mom are being cared for by volunteers at AF SPCA facilities. The puppies are currently isolated from other dogs at the AF SPCA. Volunteers from Help the Animals , Inc. in Richmond Ind. arrived on Friday to take some of the healthy puppies to their facilities to help ensure the isolation of the new rescues.

The seven puppies rescued on Wednesday are not yet up for adoption. Moland said they are recovering.

Moland said the four puppies she took from the property on August 30 are healthy and available for adoption .
