Resignation letter read on House floor

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - NewsChannel 15 has confirmed that Indiana Third District Congressman Mark Souder submitted his resignation to the U.S. House of Representatives late Thursday afternoon.
The text of the resignation, read on the House floor Thursday, is below:
"Dear Madame Speaker,
This letter is to inform you that I have sent the enclosed letter to Governor Mitch Daniels of Indiana resigning my office as the United States Representative for the Third District of Indiana effective Friday, May 21, 2010.
It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the people of Indiana.

Mark E. Souder
Member of Congress"
The resignation takes effect at midnight.
Souder is resigning after admitting an affair with a part-time female staff member.
