FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne police are investigating yet another robbery at a local pharmacy. The most recent happened around 6:45 Monday night at the Walgreens on North Clinton Street.
Witnesses said a man approached the pharmacy counter and demanded the painkiller Opana. He had his hands in his pockets and didn't display a weapon but did threaten to start shooting if he didn't get the medication. Police said he left with the drug and possibly got into a dark-colored vehicle waiting across the street at a gas station.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Fort Wayne Police or CrimeStoppers at (260) 436-7867.
Police are still trying to find the person who robbed the Walgreens on Stellhorn Road on Saturday night.
Walgreens issued the following statement regarding the recent string of robberies:
"We have invested tens of thousands of dollars in security technology to upgrade our Fort Wayne stores. This includes adding exterior cameras to supplement interior surveillance in stores where robberies have occurred as well as profile cameras near the front entrances that have provided police quality images of recent suspects. We continue to investigate additional security measures for our Fort Wayne stores.
We also have met and continue to work closely with local law enforcement and cooperate with all police investigations by sharing video surveillance and information, as well as work with local Crime Stoppers and Rx Patrol. If a store robbery is attempted, these stores also are able to immediately provide police with a high resolution video and photographs of the suspect. We hope that recent apprehensions of a robbery suspect in the area will prevent future robberies.
Store employees across the market have had training on how to detect and react to potential robberies."
