NEWTOWN, CT (WANE) - The United States Postal Service has created a specific post office box for Newtown, Conn. due to an outpouring of emotion following the elementary school shooting Dec. 14.

According to Business News Daily , the local post office in Newtown said it's been taking daily calls on where to send letters, care packages and drawings for children.

Monday the Postal Service created the following address:

P.O. Box 3700 Newtown, CT 06470

The post office said the dedicated address will help staff handle the large amount of mail they are expecting.

“The phone has been ringing nonstop with people calling to ask how they can send things,” Maureen Marion, manager of corporate communications for northeast area of the USPS, told BusinessNewsDaily.

“We’re in the beginning stages of getting it to the right people,” Marion said.

Marion also said the post office will monitor incoming mail to make sure families are receiving appropriate materials.

Items sent directly to Sandy Hook Elementary School will be delivered directly to the school.
