GREEN BAY, Wis. (WLUK) - Around this time last year, some fans were rallying for Brett Favre's return. This year, not so much.
"I'd like to see him retire where he's at," Wausau resident Loren Birkey told us outside Lambeau Field.
Despite a season with the Jets and his second retirement in as many years, it seemed Favre just wouldn't go away. Favre appeared on "Joe Buck Live" in June after months of speculation that he was interested in playing for the Vikings. Some fans in Green Bay weren't so excited about number four anymore.
"Favre in a number four purple jersey just doesn't work. I can't imagine the Vikings fans being very happy with it," Birkey said.
Some fans called Favre a traitor for even flirting with the idea of playing for the Vikings.
"To go to a division rival is like cheating on your wife, it's just uncalled for," Brian Haupts from Des Moines, Iowa said.
Unlike 2008, when the Favre saga inspired "Bring Brett Back" t-shirts, the 2009 installment saw "Judas Favre" t-shirts. Some fans were convinced their once-beloved quarterback would be a Viking.
"In my heart of hearts I thought he was going to play for the Vikings actually," West Bend resident Ken Hadler said. "I thought he was just in it for the money and wanted to just keep playing."
But now that Favre has decided not to un-retire for the second time, fans are willing to look past his near-move to Minnesota.
"I think it's a good move. I think it'd be a slap in the face to all the loyal Packer fans over the years," Haupts said.
"I'll just remember all the good things he did for the Packers," Hadler said.
Others say they'll miss Favre, but not his off-season antics.
"It's about time," Jacqi Hadler said. "The Packers, every year, is he coming back, is he not? And he was doing the same thing to the Vikings. It's like make a decision. He needs to be done. I mean I think we will all look back and be happy with Favre as opposed to him being a Viking."
Despite his year with the Jets, many say Favre will always be remembers as a Packer. Several fans also told us Favre's legacy would have been severely tarnished if he would have played for Minnesota.
