Mourdock, Donnelly make final campaign push

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  Republican Richard Mourdock and Democrat Joe Donnelly each made their final campaign push in the Fort Wayne area Monday.  It's a race that has received a lot of national attention and national money.  Both sides think this could be the race that determines which party controls the majority in the U.S. Senate.

Mourdock made his final area push at the Mocha Lounge on Covington Road around 12:15 p.m.  There, he spoke with a few supporters.

Donnelly thanked dozens of volunteers at Fort Wayne's Democratic Headquarters around 2:00 p.m. Monday.  He was supported by former Senator Evan Bayh, Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry, and other area candidates.

NewsChannel 15 asked both candidates for their final word to voters before Tuesday’s election.

"There could not be a more stark difference Congressman Donnelly and me.  He voted for the stimulus program...he voted for bailouts, he's voted for big government, and he voted for ObamaCare," Mourdock said.  "He's again endorsed Barack Obama and yet wants to call himself a moderate.  He isn't.  I would have voted the opposite in all those votes."

Donnelly said, "I have fought for jobs in Indiana, helped save the Indiana auto industry over 120,000 jobs and so for me, it's about making sure everybody has a good chance to get a job, have their dreams come true, and when I go to Washington, to be able to work with other people."

Both candidates are traveling across the state for Monday's final push.  Recent polls show Donnelly up anywhere from two to eleven points.  Mourdock said his poll numbers have him up three points.
