FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Democratic State Representative Win Moses announced Friday that he will run for re-election in Indiana House District 81.

District 81 includes much of northern and central Fort Wayne, stretching from McMillen Park to Franke Park.

For the first time in eight years, Moses will have a Republican opponent running against him for the 81st district.  GOP Chairman Steve Shine said it will be the winner of the Republican May primary between Mike Obergfell and Curtis Eastes.

Moses said he's excited about finally having an opponent.  "I think the American way is we should have competition.  And I like to walk.  I like to knock on doors.  I like to talk to people and I've done that, but it isn't the same unless you've got the poignancy of a campaign and I'm looking forward to working hard."

Moses said he thinks this is the most economically difficult time for Fort Wayne since he was Mayor when International Harvester left the City. Moses said he plans to bring more jobs to the area by creating a good business and tax climate and go after as many public dollars as possible for better roads and schools and to increase educational facilities like IPFW and Ivy Tech.

Currently, Moses serves on the Commerce, Energy, Technology & Utilities committee as Committee Chair and on the Environmental Affairs, Local Government and Public Health committees of the Indiana House of Representatives.  As chair of the Utility Committee, his goal is to help keep utility rates as low as possible.

Moses was first elected to the Indiana House of Representatives in 1992. Prior to his election to the Indiana House of Representatives, Moses served as Mayor of Fort Wayne from 1980 to 1987, and as a member of the Fort Wayne City Council from 1971 to 1979.
