FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Republican State Representative Bob Morris is making headlines for comments he made about the Girl Scouts supporting homosexuality and abortion. Lee Jordan, the man running against Morris in November, said no lawmaker should bash an organization that does so much for youth.

Jordan runs the BJ's Fish and Chips on Pontiac Street in Fort Wayne. Prior to that, he worked at NIPSCO for nearly 38 years. He says he's tired of candidates who are either too far to the left or too far to the right and aren't thinking about their constituents.

"When we have politicians being loyal to their party and ideology instead of what's good for the people, we have a problem," said Jordan.

Jordan said Morris should focus on other pressing issues, not criticizing the Girl Scouts.

"We should be the ones out with job creation, getting our middle class back to a place where they are productive in society, building jobs, our bridges and roads, we need to take more care of our schools," Jordan said.

Jordan also said he's skeptical about Morris' decision-making skills for the District 84, claiming Morris made a statement about not having time to research the resolution involving the 100th anniversary celebration of the Girl Scouts.

"All these other bills, legislative bills, that he voted on, did he do the same things to these? Little to no research and then made his mind up on these things?" Jordan asked.

Jordan hopes that before people go to the polls in November they look at what the candidate can bring to the table and don't vote based on name recognition. "Be well-armed with knowledge of each candidate. What are their issues, what do they stand up for, what have they done in the past?"

Jordan, a Democrat, said he knows the district is mostly Republican, but that he plans to campaign the old-fashioned way by getting out into the community and knocking on doors.
