Mom uses embarrassment to punish kids

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A mother on Fort Wayne's northeast side is using an unconventional method to punish her kids.

Amanda Minch made her 12- and 14-year-old children stand outside holding a sign at the intersection of Eastwick Drive and Reed Road Monday afternoon.

The sign read: "We are disrespectful and nasty to our dad. We don't follow the rules and we only do what we want. We hit him and treat him like crap.  We are ungrateful."

Minch said she's fed up with the way they treat their stepfather and the way they behave in general. She said other punishments haven't worked.

"No matter how many conversations we had, it never stopped. So we just decided, you know what, other parents have tried it, so let's try it," said Minch. "Let's embarrass them a little bit and let people know how they behave and how they treat their stepdad."

Originally, Minch said she was going to make the children stand by the street for 40 minutes. However, after they laughed about it in the beginning, she said she tacked another 40 minutes onto the punishment.

Minch said she chose the same punishment for her 13-year-old last month and claimed that it worked.
