FREMONT, Ind. (WANE) - A Steuben County Sheriff's officer was able to pull a man from a burning Jimmerson Lake home Thursday morning.

According to the Angola Fire Department, crews were called to 75 Lane 420 around 1:30 a.m. to find a ranch home with heavy fire and smoke coming from the front.

Corporal Chris Emerick was first on the scene and told by a neighbor there was still someone inside. Emerick opened the back door of the home and found a large cloud of black smoke coming out. He used his flashlight to search around and found the man five to ten feet inside. Emerick crawled into the house and pulled the man out of the fire.

A woman was also in the house, but was able to get out on her own. The man and woman were taken to Cameron Hospital where they were treated and later transferred to a Fort Wayne Hospital. As of Thursday afternoon, both of them were listed in critical condition.

The Angola Fire Department estimated $150,000 in damage.
