NEW HAVEN, Ind., (WANE) --- - An 80-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint during a startling home invasion in New Haven Thursday night. Police are searching for the two suspects responsible.
Officers were called to the 500 block of Courtney Drive at 11:16 p.m.
A man reported answering his door to find two unexpected visitors on the other side.
"The lone homeowner was confronted by two males whites in their early 20's, one armed with a semi-automatic pistol," said New Haven Police Detective Craig Robison.
Within seconds, the two robbers were forcing their way inside the man's home.
"They both pretty much pushed their way in through the front door once the resident answered the door. A gun was put in his face, and they ordered him to sit down," Robison told NewsChannel 15.
Together, they robbed the man and then ordered him to stay in the bathroom while they fled.
Once they left, the man was able to call police. A K-9 was officer brought in, but the dog lost the trail a short distance from the home.
Police say the robbers got away with some credit cards and less than a thousand dollars of cash.
An investigation is ongoing, but police don't believe the robbery was random.
Robison says,"We have reason to believe for some reason the individual was targeted, not just someone randomly knocking on doors, robbing people in the community. Why he is a target at this point remains to be seen."
For that reason, Robison says there's no reason for other homeowners nearby to be alarmed. He does urge homeowners to continue to use caution when answering the door late at night.
The two suspects are described as two white males in their 20's;
one with a larger build.
The victim says both were shorter than 5'9. Both were wearing
masks and gloves.
