A ruptured gas main is temporarily fixed in Kendallville.

A crew from the city’s water department hit the gas main at approximately 5:39 a.m. Tuesday when it was digging near the railroad tracks on Ohio Street.

Northern Indiana Fuel & Light crews were able to tap the main gas line and put a temporary valve in to stop the leak. They are still working on a permanent fix.

Residential areas did not have to be evacuated and no one has been hurt, but the Kraft Food plant had to be shut down.

The 100 block of Ohio Street is still closed while crews work on the line.
