HICKSVILLE, Ohio (WANE) - A couple in Hicksville, Ohio welcomed a newborn son to their family on Monday. However, the birth did not go exactly as planned.
On Sunday night, Brandi Gipple, 26, went into work third shift like any other night. The baby she and her boyfriend, Jeff Seach were expecting was due any day.
"He wasn't due until [Thursday.] We knew it was soon, we knew it was coming," said Seach.
It was a normal day's work until Brandi realized, she was in the beginning stages of labor.
"She was in quite a bit of pain obviously," said Seach.
Brandi drove home to wake Jeff before heading to the hospital.
"I asked her really quick, 'do I have time to take a quick shower before I get in the car?' I came around the corner... and I heard her scream out, 'I've got a baby's head in my hands!'," said Seach.
A 4:45 a.m. Monday, Brandi gave birth to her son, Ethan Michael in a small bathroom at home.
"I just remember screaming twice, pushed once, I was done," said Gipple. "After than, I can't tell you because I don't remember."
To make matters even more chaotic, the umbilical cord was wrapped around Ethan's neck.
"She went through this and had the sense of mind to unwrap him really quick and she held him upright to make sure he was breathing," said Seach. "I'm just thankful everything turned out the way it did and we're all happy... I know he's a lucky kid to have her as a mom."
Medics rushed the family to the hospital; mother and baby are perfectly healthy. Seach and Gipple brought their son back home for the first time Wednesday.
