FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Close to a thousand chanted "We are the free! We are the brave! Our flag will wave!" on the courthouse lawn Saturday afternoon.

"We want the spending, mainly the spending to stop," said Wanda Goneau. "Because you can't spend your way into prosperity."

And if you couldn't hear their frustration, you could read it. 'Hands off my piggy bank!' one sign read. And "The pirates are in Washington!"

Some even brought their pitchforks out.

"I think people are beginning to realize that the folks in D.C. aren't listening," said Former U.N. Ambassador, and conservative activist Dr. Alan Keyes. He's been traveling across the country, rallying conservatives. "In America what that means, is not that you go pay court to them like they are your masters. It's that you begin to organize in order to remind them that the people of this country govern them."

Keyes and others would like to see 3 things happen:
(1.) Abolish the federal tax and bring in a fair tax system.
(2.) Get rid of the federal reserve.
(3.) And restore constitutional principles, like keeping all three branches of government separate.

All changes protestors believe are elementary.

"As a mother, I'm trying to teach my son to be responsible and save and to spend wisely," said Ann Englehart. "If a child can understand that, I dont' see why the government can't understand that."
