FREMONT, Ind., (WANE) --- - Police have nearly exhausted their search efforts for a local man who disappeared five days ago. A silver alert was issued for 48-year-old Stuart H. Stalcup Sunday. It's believed that he's on foot and in danger.

It's not a typical silver alert since Stalcup is just 48. The term typically refers to a search for a missing senior citizen.

But, Detective Dale Murray with the Steuben County Sheriff's Department explains,"He's not a senior citizen but he's definitely at need."

Stalcup was last seen Saturday night. Murray says he was staying in Fremont with his parents at their lake cottage in the Snow Lake area.

It's believed he disappeared sometime between 11 p.m. Saturday and 6:30 a.m Sunday. Stalcup was gone when parents woke up.

Stalcup had recently suffered a stroke that's affected his memory and communication. In addition, he's an insulin dependent diabetic.

Police say Stalcup doesn't have insulin or much money, if at all, with him.

"His life could be in danger if he's not found here and gotten on the right track," Murray told NewsChannel 15.

Stalcup, a white male, 48 years old, 5 feet 8 inches in height, 160 pounds in weight, has balding dark brown hair and green eyes.

He was last seen wearing a plaid flannel shirt, blue jeans, and a blue with yellow vest.

Murray says Stalcup is originally from Wichita, Kansas. Authorities believe there could be a chance he's headed there. According to Murray, Kansas Police have been notified of the search.

Locally, the search efforts continue.

"We've walked door to door, we've walked wooded areas, we've went everywhere we can think of to look, so we're kind of hoping the public gives us something to work on," said Murray. "Until we know different, we're going to keep that search going so we can see what happened to him."
