Crime dogs earn diplomas

Dogs and trainers complete 14-week training

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Thursday was graduation day for a group of local police dogs and their trainers.

Six K-9 units from Allen, DeKalb, and Defiance Counties and the Indiana State Police celebrated the completion of a 14-week training course.

They focused on obedience control, searching for evidence, area and building searching, tracking and detecting marijuana, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and ecstasy.

Deputy Aaron J. Long and Gage - DeKalb Co. Sheriff's Dept.

Officer Joel L. Ellert and Niko - Allen Co. Sheriff's Dept.

Officer Christopher J. Kramer and Chewbacca - Allen Co. Sheriff's Dept.

Patrolman Mitchell M. McClure and Rex - Defiance Police Dept.

Trooper Shane L. Neuenschwander and Smokey - Indiana State Police

Officer George H. Gensic and Paco - Auburn Police Dept.
