FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A local radio personality is recovering from serious injuries after a hit and run crash on Fort Wayne's south side.

Dave Michaels was driving through the intersection of Hanna and Tillman on his way to work at K105 Wednesday morning. That's when police say a female driver of a black Chrysler ran a red light. The Chrysler "t-boned" Michaels' car and pushed it into a city bus.

"I don't know what happened, I don't remember anything that happened after that," said Michaels.

The father of four was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.

"I've got a fractured shoulder blade. I've got fractured ribs, and I've got cracks in the ball of my hip socket," said Michaels.

Officer Michael Joyner, spokesman for the Fort Wayne Police Department said the crash could have been much worse.

"It's amazing that we're not investigating a critical injury, if not fatality. [That's] based on the extent of the damage of both vehicles," said Joyner.

FWPD are searching for a woman they say isn't taking responsibility for causing the serious crash.

"She attempted to drive away from the scene in her vehicle, but the damage sustained was such that she could not physically drive the vehicle," said Joyner.

Witnesses told police the suspect ran down Tillman to the Midwest America FCU parking lot, where another car picked her up and took off. That is the more irritating part, according to Michaels'.

"From what I'm hearing is she didn't even stop to see if I was alright," said Michaels. "She just got up and left on foot... I could have been dead."

Police officers are confident they will find the responsible driver and she will be held accountable.

"I wish that people would take responsibility for their actions," said Michaels.

Police said the suspect could face serious charges, including felonies for running from the scene of a crash involving serious injury.
