Police have found an inmate who escaped late Thursday night from the Dekalb County Jail. 24-year-old Shannon Michael Pelmear was located in Waterloo around 3:30 Friday afternoon.
Pelmear escaped from the jail around 10 p.m. Thursday. He escaped by breaking out a small window in his second floor cell and dropping down to the sidewalk.
The window was made of laminated glass and is only about six inches high. According to police, the hole Pelmear created was only 20 inches across.
A witness watched as Pelmear lowered himself from the window on bed sheets that were tied to his bunk. The witness immediately called police.
Pelmear fled East from the jail on 9th street. The jail is located on 215 E. 8th Street in Auburn.
Pelmear was in jail for burglary and dealing Methamphetamine and cocaine. He's been there since May 14th, 2009.
He was recovered in his hometown of Waterloo Friday.
Police said after being examined by medical personnel, Pelmear was transported back to the Dekalb County Jail.
He's now facing an additional felony charge for escaping.
