ADAMS COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - Thirty-seven horses were removed from an Adams Co. farm Thursday morning.  It's located on C.R. 500 N.  That's just west of Decatur.

The Adams County Sheriff's department says many of the horses are sick, malnourished and some are dangerous. The animals range in age from fouls to adults. Police say they've been keeping an eye on the farm and the health of the horses for years, but the standards were not extreme enough to take action against the farm owner until now.

The Adams County Prosecutor has filed one cruelty to animals charge against the homeowner, Rick Hill for neglect and more could follow.  The situation is still under investigation. Police say Hill was not at home during the rescue effort and officers still do not know where he is.

Authorities say volunteer help has been invaluable during this incident. Many people have been generous with their time, food and other items for the horses.
