AUBURN, Ind. (AP) -- - The family of a 66-year-old man who was found dead the day after he was in a car wreck has filed a lawsuit against the police agencies that investigated the crash, but did not find the man or his 14-year-old autistic grandson.
Officers investigated 911 calls on Feb. 18, 2008, but didn't check the vehicle, believing it belonged to someone gathering firewood in the area near Garrett, about 20 miles north of Fort Wayne.
The next day, the frozen body of Duane Squire of Avilla was found in the field. His grandson was found unhurt, but cold, in the car.
The suit seeks unspecified damages, citing the teen's physical and emotional trauma.
DeKalb County officials declined immediate comment on the suit.
