FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A Fort Wayne woman is one of four McDonald’s employees in the United States selected by the company to work on its Olympic crew in London during the summer Olympics.
Area supervisor, Bonnie Zaremba has worked for the restaurant chain for 24 years.
Since 2002, McDonald’s has run incentive programs to compile its Olympic team. One of the restaurants Zaremba supervises in New Haven, Ind. won a contest to increase sales during peak lunch hours. Zaremba’s name was entered in a drawing and selected in May to be part of the 2,000 member crew.
“[McDonald’s] decided to take the best crew of people from across the world and put them in that Olympic environment and serve that food, kind of put McDonald’s best foot forward the same way these other countries put their best athletic foot forward,” Andy Fuller, spokesman for McDonald’s said.
Zaremba will spend one week in London working at one of four restaurants built specifically for the summer games. She will perform in the same capacity she does locally. During downtime, McDonald’s has arranged for each crew member to attend the Olympic event of his or her choice along with other planned events to tour London.
“I love that it’s kind of structured so they can help me learn about London,” Zaremba said. “McDonald’s has been a great company to work for over the years and they do stuff like this every so often and this time it’s my turn.”
The trip to London will be Zaremba’s first out of the country.
