Winterval festival offers family friendly activities

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne's Downtown Improvement District and the Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation Department is sponsoring the annual Winterval festival on Saturday, January 26.

Different organizations around the Fort Wayne area are providing family friendly activities.

A free Citilink bus will travel along Main Street in a loop every ten minutes.

The Winterval schedule is as follows:

The Botanical Conservatory

  • 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • $1 off admission
  • There will be indoor snowmaking from 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., a bagel bird feeder craft, cookies and hot chocolate. There will also be ice carving at 2 p.m.

Science Central

  • 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Half off admission
  • Make Glacial Gak (slime) or try some tasty liquid nitrogen ice cream

The Old Fort

  • 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Free admission
  • See what winter life on the frontier was like in the early 1700's with French military, civilians and local Native American. There will also be a bake sale.

Fort Wayne Museum of Art

  • 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • $1 per person
  • Six exhibitions, plus the Permanent Collection

Cathedral Books & Gifts

  • 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • 20% off sale

Arch, Inc

  • 11 a.m.
  • Fun & Free Lecture Series: The How-To’s of Restoring Historic Interiors
  • Free admission

Allen County Public Library – Downtown

  • 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Free admission
  • Ice carving at 11 a.m.
  • Kids crafts from noon – 2 p.m.

Headwaters Park Ice Rink

  • 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Regular Admission
  • Figure skating exhibitions at 1:15, 2:15, 3:15, and 4:15 p.m.

Ice Carving

  • 11 a.m.: Allen County Public Library at 900 Library Plaza
  • 2 p.m.: Botanical Conservatory at 1100 S. Calhoun Street
  • 3 p.m.: Community Center at 233 W. Main Street
  • 4 p.m.: Arts United Plaza at 300 E. Main Street

History Center

  • Noon to 5 p.m.
  • Half price admission
  • Enjoy a collection of more than 26,000 artifacts, photographs and documents representing the history of Fort Wayne and Allen County.

Lawton Park

  • 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.
  • Free admission
  • Watch the Fort Wayne Rugby Club vs. IPFW in the annual Polar Bear Rugby Game

Community Center

  • 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Free event
  • Horse-drawn carriage rides, indoor curling, ice fishing, snow crafts, pinewood derby, and ice carving

Arts United Plaza

  • 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Free event
  • 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. - Watch ice carving on the plaza
  • 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. enjoy cocoa and cookies
  • 5:30 p.m. - IPFW and FW Youtheatre’s “Oliver"
  • 6 p.m. - The Fort Wayne Fringe Festival Teaser
  • 7:30 p.m. - Salsa Loca dance party

Fort Wayne Youtheatre

  • Community Center: 3 p.m.

  • Youtheatre traveling troupe will perform a show that includes the children’s favorites: “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day,” “Yettel’s Feathers,” “The Lorax” and a preview of the upcoming “Oliver!”
