Wartell not selected as University of Northern Iowa president

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (WANE) - Dr. Michael Wartell was not chosen as the next president of University of Northern Iowa, after the search was narrowed down to two finalists.

Leaders at the university announced Thursday afternoon that William N. Ruud , president of Shippensburg University, will be the 10th president of the University of Northern Iowa.

Wartell previously applied to become president of the University of Louisiana System and the University of New Orleans.

Wartell was the Chancellor at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne from 1994 to 2012.
