FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - NewsChannel 15 has covered the following violent crimes that have occurred in the city in 2013 as of March 19:

In the first three months of 2012, there were three homicides in Fort Wayne. However, in the first three months of 2013, there have been nine.

"There will be a lot of activity at a period of time, but it is by no means an indicator of what the year will look like," said Raquel Foster, the Public Information Officer for the Fort Wayne Police Department.

Police said some of the more recent shootings were not related to each other but are linked to previous shootings earlier in the year. Many of the nine homicide victims this year have had prior run-ins with the law, and seven of the city's serious shooting victims have been 25 or younger.

"They're engaged in a lifestyle where the likelihood of them dying at a young age is very high," Foster said.

There have been nine homicides this year and one shooting that has left one of the victims in critical condition. Out of the 10 cases, only two have had people arrested and charged.
