Veterans Day weekend events honor military members and their families

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - Fort Wayne area businesses and restaurants will be offering different events for Veteran's Day during the weekend of November 10 and 11.

The following is a list of events to honor American's active military and veterans:

Saturday, November 10

  • Veterans Marathon - The 4th annual Veterans Marathon will be held in Columbia City on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. The event will feature a marathon, half marathon, and 5K race. The race will donate $5 to the American Red Cross every time a New York City Marathon runner enters their bib number when they register for the Veteran's Marathon. The 2012 New York City Marathon was canceled after Hurricane Sandy hit the city.
  • Veterans Day Parade - The annual parade will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. The parade line up will start at the corner of State Street and Parnell Avenue and end at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum for a ceremony in Memorial Hall immediately following the parade.

Sunday, November 11

  • Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery - Tilted Kilt will be offering free meals for veterans and active military on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m.
  • Mike's Carwash - Mike’s Carwash will be offering free car washes on Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for veterans and active. In addition, donations will be accepted at each location for Disabled American Veterans (DAV), a national organization which serves close to 50,000 disabled veterans in Indiana and Ohio.   • Free admission to DNR state parks - The DNR is offering free admission to DNR state parks, reservoir properties, and state forests to veterans and active military on Sunday. Veterans and military personnel should present ID or evidence of military service at the entrance gate.
