FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Indiana Disabled American Veterans presented George "Bo" Jarboe with the 2012 Community Service Award on Friday.

The DAV presents this award each year to either an individual or a group for making a positive difference in the lives of veterans.

Tony Craig, service director for the Indiana DAV, presented the award to Jarboe during a news conference in the offices of the Allen County Board of Commissioners.

“Bo’s knowledge of the different benefits and programs that are offered, the requirements that need to be met and how to work within the system have yielded exceptional service for veterans and their dependents. He also has compassion for people and that’s something needed in this job," Craig said.

This is one of the highest honors for civilians.

“Receiving this recognition from the Indiana DAV is truly an honor,” Jarboe said. “Our office has worked with them on a number of cases and they’ve always been a big help to the veterans in our county.”
